As the economy recovers from a downturn, some families are better able to weather hard times than others. Not only are African American workers facing more job loss than white workers, but they tend to have less to fall back on. Blacks hold the lowest wages, are losing homes, exhausting savings, and drowning in debt disproportionately to whites.

But with a new economic crisis comes new opportunity. As debate rages about how to invigorate the economy and spend additional public dollars to do so, the NAACP has a chance to level the playing field.

The NAACP works to become a part of the solution through researching and establishing relationships with private and public entities; monitoring the progress of activity in state-wide programs; implementing efforts to promote the growth of local area business ownership; increase employment and job creation; and encourage business development and home ownership.
